Exploding watermelons or Organic foods?

Food additives, genetically modified foods, exploding watermelons, what else? As if pollution and chemical leaks are not causing enough damage, now even the food we are eating are in danger of exploding in our faces like landmines.

To make extra money, farmers sprayed forchlorfenuron, a growth accelerator, during overly wet season which made the melon burst. Telltale signs being that of fibrous misshapen fruit, with mostly white instead of black seeds. (China Central Television, CCTV) 

Even without these telltale signs, we all know that to cater to the worldwide growing demand for food, most foods nowadays are produced using Genetically Modified seeds, injected / sprayed with growth accelerators. 

What about Organic foods? 

There are various Organic Certification Bodies internationally, with new certification bodies coming up year by year. More commonly seen certification bodies include USDA, Ecovert, BIO and many more. Although there are some slight variations in criteria for the certification, there is one underlying similarity. 

Organic products must not contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

That means, no artificial chemicals like forchlorfenuron or any other legal or illegal growth accelerator, in your food. No risking what you put into your mouth everyday.

Starting the day with Organic Facial?

No kidding.


That's how the green folks at Organic Health started our day today (WOW)!! In our quest to give each and every one of our valued customers nothing but the best, we were led to a place in Simei, where we found a sole distributor of a particular range of organic facial & natural mineral make up products, imported directly from New Zealand.


With our beautician in tow, we had an appointment set up with the Organic Facial supplier, and since someone had to be the model, lucky me got to start my work day with a relaxing and soothing Organic Facial! I had combination to oily skin, so the customized facial for the day, consisted of  cleansing & toning, an exfoliating clay mask, face massage using honey & rose quartz.


Imagine, honey drizzled on your face, and massaged with rose quartz! How luxurious!!

And the best thing? Everything that went on my face today, were ORGANIC. I am not too sure about you, but I had never had any Organic Facials before, and with preconceptions from prior facials that I frequent, and all those scary, skin damaging infra rays, diamond peel and what not machines in mind, you bet this Organic Facial concept was a real refreshing change to me.


Wonders of wonders, I went in expecting only to have gentle to the skin, and natural organic products applied to my face. And I came out with a visibly brightened face. The amazingly fragrant exfoliating clay mask (it had a scent that reminds me of relaxing spa sessions and Balinese massages, though there is absolutely no traces of Lemongrass in the product) that was applied on my face not only sloughed off all those nasty dead skin cells, it also helped in purifying my skin. Add the honey and quartz massage that stimulated detoxification & blood circulation, I couldn't be a happier girl!


Looks like we definitely have to add this range of products to our new Organic Facial Menu. Now, we just got to decide on which products are best suitable for acne & aging skin and we are all set to go!

The Guava Benefit - (Psidium guajava)

As a young Kampong boy, way in the 70's, I used to climb this particular Guava ( Malays call it Jambu Batu) tree behind my house. It served as a playground for me, keeping me sheltered from the afternoon sun and provided me with fruits that were tasty and fresh. Hardy branches, tough trunk (we used to carve our names on the trunk) and aromatic smelling leaves when plucked all give character to this tree that provide many health benefits.

Yes Health benefits!

When I had colic (or any complains I had regarding my stomach) my mother or grandmother will boil the leaves of the Guava tree and make me drink the tea, yes, Guava Herbal Tea. As fresh as it can get, and Organic. The tree grows healthily without the need for artificial fertilizers. (I miss Kampong Life!)
Within an hour, I felt relief. No need to go to the doctors.

Guava had been traditionally used in these conditions:

• gastroenteritis, 
• diarrhea 
• dysentery (bacterial and amebic) 
• colic and 
• infantile rotavirus enteritis. 
• as a cough suppressant
• an analgesic (pain relieve)
• febrifuge (reduce fever)
• generally for colds, flu & sore throat

The leaves can be chewed to relieve toothache. I used to chew the leaves and apply it onto fresh wounds (after falling from the same tree). The would would heal nicely fast.

Guava has broad spectrum of natural antimicrobial & anti fungal activity, safe to be consumed.
Whenever I travel these days, I will bring with me a sufficient supply of Guava Tea in my medical kit.
recently I had food poisoning during a trip to Malaysia.  My treatment? Yes! Guava tea. Just boil hot water, put the sachet in the cup and pour the hot water, sip and enjoy the taste and in an hour or so, I no longer visit the toilet. Had a good sleep as well.

The Guava Tea...... I won't leave home without it!

Oh Yes! one more thing, if you need fresh Vitamin C, eat the Guava fruit. It contains more vitamin C than oranges.

Happy New Year to all!

Time flies, they really do fly pass very fast, sometimes too fast that it leaves you behind without warning.
2010 has left and it left us with a good light. Now here comes 2011 with more promises and opportunities. Now, more opportunities to improve our health, yes our health.

First January 2011 marks the start of our journey into the next decade. First resolution..... eat more healthily, eat organic, eat food that cures and be friendlier to mother Earth!

We at Organic Health definitely have many more new programs lining up. From organic food preparation demonstrations to seminars on eco friendly activities, we will organize regularly. The Organic Market in Singapore

5 years ago, it was difficult to see Organic retail stores in Singapore. Today there are close to 200 island wide. This definitely shows a strong interest in Organic Products which include food, beverage, skincare, hair care supplements and not forgetting Bio-degradable household items.

We sometimes get questions from customers if taking Organic Products will make them MORE healthy.

Our answer is not necessarily BUT, taking Organic Products DEFINITELY reduce our risk of taking in chemical residues that may be or are harmful to our health in the long run. These chemical residues come from possible pesticides used in growing certain commercial crops or from artificial fertilizers used to "super feed" the crops. Its like ingesting bits and pieces of toxins over long periods of time. Without proper detoxing our bodies may be at high risk of deterioration and many illnesses may develop. Now why do we want to let that happen?

We encourage customers to take small but sure steps in the direction of consuming Healthy Foods and start taking organic foods and beverage. This will benefit consumers in the long run.

Well! There is always the first time to everything.

After much procrastinating, here we are, the blog page for Organic Health.
We have been in business for more than 5 years now and in the midst of reorganizing the business to make it current, more congruent and more profitable.

Organic Health Pte Ltd (Singapore) will move towards Green Movement one step at a time. We will make every effort to reuse, reduce and recycle in our daily business operations. Its impossible for us to immediately go Green overnight, so being realistic, we decide to take one step at a time, and while doing so learn to improve ourselves in the direction towards saving Mother Earth. It is always a balance and the commitment to take bold steps is what's more important.
